Oh, okay, good...you weren't talking about one of MY comments (which were in blue). I had TONS of issues with the things that the writer said.

The bottom line is that the UN is really much more concerned with the things that are happening in countries where the girls are having thier clitoris cut with a dirty piece of glass because their parents belong to a certain religion and by golly since the parents do, the children need to deal with whatever the parents say.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMSQPDd1B2g

The UN is more concerned with children who are being tortured for being "witches" in Africa...and their parents are christian:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZVVbGEOoCM

Or maybe it is the children who are sold

I really doubt that the UN is gonna go knocking down your door if you "make" your children participate in your religious choices. They have much more pressing matters to deal with. Unfortunately, Americans can hardly see past their own noses to the horrors that are TRYING to be addressed. We are a egocentric country. Sad really.

I'm talking about statements and the 'they' like this in black above: The socialist, liberal agenda, with their one-world viewpoint, seeks to take away America’s pride, prestige, and prosperity. They know the best way to do that is to remove any influence that traditional family values may have on children. When all else fails, they must resort to removing children from homes that are not politically and socially correct. In order to do that, they need laws on the books that will give social workers, teachers, judges, and psychologists the authority to determine whether you are a fit parent and whether or not your child’s “rights” are being denied.

No, all religious choices should ultimately be up to the individual but parents shouldn't be forced to accommodate their children's new belief in violation to their own.

I do agree with you about the Patriot Act being a limit on personal freedoms. It was strictly a reactionary, over reaching law rushed through out of fear.

I'm not sure what you mean by the questioning "they?" above. Can you please make that a smidge more clear?

Like I noted, the governement (city, state and federal) have taken care of most (if not all) of the items that are listed in the Rights of the Children treaty, which you have concerns.

Take some time and look up the information - - or call an attorney and ask what would happen if any of the items you currently have concerns with were to pass. For example, if a child of christian parents were to decide to become a wiccan, there is little the parents can do to MAKE the child a christian.

I really don't like generalized labeling arguments like this. Who is "they"? These arguments are often vague and rely on scare tactics instead of specifics. However, while I don't agree with his tactic, I do stand against this treaty too. Just because everyone else is doesn't necessarily mean we should.

I read this treaty (the full treaty not just the hype and excerpts) last spring and was scared. In theory it sounds like a good idea but the devil is in the details. Some of it is good, but there are parts that give the government too much power to interpret laws against parents. It is over reaching and may be intrusive depending upon interpretation. I hope we don't ratify it but fear we may. For my reasons, I wrote a post http://akhomeschoolfun.wordpress.com/2008/06/03/childrens-rights/

Heidi,

I've been through something very similar to this with our girls. We've rounded the bend now - for the most part - and are settling back into responsibilities and better attention to schoolwork. Please know that things can get better!

If PS feels right for you all at this moment, go with it. Don't let anyone tell you that you're giving up on Boo or that you're not doing right by her. You are a good Mom! And I'm sure this decision has been a tough one to make.

Keep in mind two things:

1) Boo may have hidden reasons for being oppositional with you right now (we just found out that DojoGirl has ADHD, and it explains a lot of our struggles over the years!) A lot of girls with learning differences go undetected until they get into middle school or later. I pray this is not your situation, but remember to be consistent with PS staff, and to advocate for your baby if she isn't settling in well or needs help.

2) Your options are still wide open. You can do afterschooling if that is something that calls to you. And if PS isn't working out, there are alternative programs, independent schools, or you can return to homeschooling once you've all had a chance to recharge our batteries. If PS works out, great for you all!

Hugs!!!!

Thanks for the links, Heidi! I'm going to have to check them out.

I've haven't had much time for blog reading in a while and now that I pop in, it seems you haven't had much chance to blog. Hope everything is going well :)

I've done a little updating on my blog, though not nearly as much as I'd like. Busy, busy......

Cheers!
